Binos Stolen!!!!

#1

Post by AbbN »

Since we don't a binoculars sub forum yet I'm doing this here.

A few nights ago I took out my 15x70 binos to check out the sky and then decided to take out my XLT 120. I left the binos on the porch steps and went inside to get the scope. When I came outside again THEY WERE GONE - SOMEONE HAD STOLEN THEM    In retrospect it's a good thing I didn't have my ST80 or 102 Mak G&G scopes out!!!

Anyway, I've cooled down somewhat since then and have looked at replacing them and I have a couple of possibilities and would appreciate your opinion :)

1. Getting the exact same binos -

2. Or these since they're on sale and very tempting...

What do you think.......

I have those 20x80s and like them a lot. Surely a good deal, once you go to 25x100 you pay a lot more.

Besides, if any good came out of this why not upgrade?

I'm starting to lean towards the 20x80's since you like them a lot plus they're on sale :) JG in a PM at AF suggests I stay with the 15x70's but as you said "why not upgrade?" especially since they're on sale...:D

The 20x80s are of course heavier than the 15x70s and the optics are not perfect but what do you expect for that price. Towards the edge of the field there is definitely curvature. I once stopped it down when I was looking at Saturn with holes in cardboard and noticed that the sharpness improved a bit (though you can't really see the rings either way). I have no comparison material, JG has a lot to compare with. I enjoy them a lot also in the daytime.

That's just plain mean! Sorry for your loss, now turn it into a plus. The 20x80's are nice, but as someone else mentioned considerably heavier than the 15x70's. I have found that as I age, I need more help with the larger binos now. Whatever you get, I'm sure you will enjoy!

Wrong, wrong, WRONG!! I hope the first thing they do is take a good long look at the sun through them!

But the only thing I can really say is that since acquiring the 25x100s, the 15x70s sit unused. The 8x56s see a lot of light and the little constellation binoculars (2.3x40s) are loads of fun. Can't remember the last time I used the 15x70s.

I hear what you're saying regarding the weight of the SkyHiker and Frazman . Still the 20x80's are tempting and Ozman also makes a good point regarding his 20x100's ..... To some extent I can hand hold the 15x70's for a very short time whereas the 20x80's are about 1 Kg heavier than the 15x70's. The 20x80's would have to strictly tripod mounted and I have both a tripod and good monopod I can put it one. I do have a pair of 8x50 and 10x50 binos so I'm not at a loss regarding a hand held pair

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Shoot the SOB when you find him !
This is not bad luck. It is the evidence that corruption Is at work in the wold. ThIs SOB will regret this BS. I feel no tolerance for this corruption.

It may be that you have enough grace to "get.over it". If so, go out and buy yourself a 10x50 Swaro EL and forget about this indignity! I hate hearing about this crap !

In light of this oversight, I have to ask, are you SURE your bino's were stolen?

It'd be a shame to have a new pair of replacement binos arrive only to find your old one's weren't stolen, you picked them off the front step and forgot you left them in the medicine cabinet next to the Tylenol with codeine....
