In light of this oversight, I have to ask, are you SURE your bino's were stolen?
It'd be a shame to have a new pair of replacement binos arrive only to find your old one's weren't stolen, you picked them off the front step and forgot you left them in the medicine cabinet next to the Tylenol with codeine....
:D
Nope, definitely stolen. I had the headache when I was trying to find a Binocular forum, not when I took the binos out

I've been rethinking 15x70 binos. As tempting as the 20x80's are, I like the fact that to an extent the 15x70's can be hand held.

After doing the more searching I came across the Celestron Cavalry 15x70's. They're a bit different than the Skymaster ones in that they more durable, have a slightly wider FOV ( 4.7° vs. 4.4°), and are Nitrogen purged, and are waterproof vs the Skymaster's water resistant.

Hmmm..............

Looks like a good pair and a slight upgrade compared to the Skymasters. I have the Skymaster 15x70's as well. This pair looks more rugged however - and if you drop them or set them down hard maybe the outcome would be better. I also like to handhold mine. After a couple of minutes though I usually lie down in a chaise lounge chair and prop up my elbows on the armrest.

Hi Abb,

As long as you are going down the "upgrade" path, and want to stick with 70 mm objectives, take a look at the Oberwerk 10.5 X 70s. The 10.5 X counters the weight of the 70 mm objectives quite well. I can hand hold these binos longer than any other of my 70 mm binos, not because they're lighter, but because the muscle tremors from fatigue aren't quite as a parent until you really get fatigued. These are my most used binos. When you put them on a monopod the views are stunning.

Cheers,
JT

AbbN,

Sorry to hear about that your binos were stolen. They violated your space!

Get em anyway! Heck, if the first pair shows up, all the better. Just don't tell anyone!

I agree. Unfortunately they are more than I can spend on binos at the moment. The 15x70's and 20x80's are currently in my price range. The Oberwerk's are $400 US which translates to approx $500 CDN.

My wife who has absolutely nooooooooooo interest in the sky (in her words years ago when I was just getting started, the stars are just "dots" to her :D ) thinks I should go with the "bigger ones" to the point where she'll go half way on them as a Father's day present but won't on the "smaller" one (15x70's) - women eh  (no offence Lady Frakor) . Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..................

Sorry to hear about the theft Abb: it leaves a horrible feeling in your heart!
I know, because I once had a trailer stolen which housed my planetarium (I run a portable planetarium as a business), my home-made, home-ground 10" dob and my Vixen 114 refractor, all my eyepieces and mounts etc... But eventually good came out of it as I became the proud owner of a Tak TSA102 (which kills the Vixen!), a new home-made 12" dob (although I cheated and bought a mirror this time) and a heap of other cooler stuff than I had originally; which probably never have happened without the sympathy support from my better half! ;)

As for the replacement binos, my vote is for the 20x80's and a tripod. You really can't hand-hold 15x70's for long anyway, and 20x80's will show a lot more, complementing your smaller binos nicely.

Good luck!

Dean

PS: I don't suppose you could work on the sympathy support too: and go for an upgrade like https://oberwerk.com/product/oberwerk-15x70mm-deluxe/ or https://oberwerk.com/product/oberwerk-2 ... eluxe-iii/ ...

I love the included chair: just make sure you don't hit the "ignition" button by accident and find yourself in orbit! Is a safety parachute included?
