Well, foop.

Took out my Skymaster 15x70s Saturday night for a quick look around. It was relatively cold and moon was rising, so I didn't bother taking out a scope.

Decided to spend a little time in Orion and his belt was almost perfectly vertical. That's when I noticed his belt was centered in the right objective but well off center to the left in the left objective. And I thought I had collimated these things as best as possible.

I'll give it another try, but last time one of the adjustment screws was turned as far as it would go, so I'm not optimistic on getting them collimated. Guess it's time to look at a pair of Obies more seriously...

Let's just be honest. You want new binoculars. Those Skymasters are just not cooperating. Life's too short for wonky binoculars. Go for it!

I am sorry to here of this frustration.
If there is no hope for these binos maybe it is time for an educational dissection. 😊
The Obies have a good reputation. I have only the 25X100s but they have served me well.
Binoculars are such wonderful observing tools...the quintessential grab and go kit.
More clears skies to you.

I have the 25x100's - a fairly recent purchase which has been a great addition to my kit. I highly recommend them (you'll need a good mount though).

I'm still looking at 20x80 mm.,but on the fence between Orion's ED or Oberwerk's LW. The Oberwerk is 4 lbs. and the Orion is5.7 lbs. that is a big difference to me.

We should take a poll and see how many of us have a pair of Skymaster 15x70s lurking in a closet somewhere.
Time to move on to better and brighter things :)

W.r.t the Skymaster 15x70s I confess to having a pair. Mine have held collimation well. But I want something bigger, better. Since I got my Nikon Aculon 10x50 set the Skymasters have been neglected.

Yep, that's pretty much been the case with me also. The Aculons are very nice, but I do like the extra mag and aperture of the SMs.

Been leaning toward 15x70 Obies but those 20x80s are mighty tempting. Luckily (?) my hobby budget is depleted right now, so I can't jump into anything for awhile. But I did just sell a C-tron dovetail and I have a couple Orion Expanses to sell and...

I'm wanting an achromatic binocular telescope with swappable EPs. Budget is depleted also since I had to pay for major surgery on my cello. Also looking to upgrade a grandson's scope for December holiday gifts....
