eq5 pro sync handset compatability

i have a nextar 8se with electronic focusser and want to know if the handset on a eq5 pro sync has focusser in its menu and will recognise my celestron focusser??

As far as I know a Skywatcher hand controller will not work with a Celestron mount.
Though they are both sold by Synta the programing language is different.

Sorry I do not speak programming geek. (no offense Henk) :)
Celestron makes a lot of programming boards for various companies but I have never heard of anyone finding them to be interchangable.
If they were I would have a iOptron HC connected to my ASGT tomorrow.

Actually there are two protocols: Meade LX200 and Celestron Nexstar. Aside from Meade, Losmandy and AP also use their protocol. The rest all uses Nexstar. So if the handsets are electronically compatible they should be interchangeable. But don't take my word for it, I don't want to be responsible if it breaks!

I have never heard of anyone managing it so I will not be volunteering my mount either :)

Is this not for computer control of a mount though?

Yes our discussion had nothing to do with focuser control. I was just commenting on your remark if the hand controllers are compatible or not.

Celestron supports auxiliary devices such as an autofocuser, autoalign, GPS, WiFi, through the mount's AUX port. The Nexstar hand controller can then control the autofocuser. The AUX port does not support non-Celestron devices. This implies that you need a Celestron hand controller for this and that it will not work with a Skywatcher hand controller.

The Celestron autofocuser can also be controlled directly by a PC using ASCOM over a USB cable, and perhaps a serial line plugged into the Nexstar hand controller's serial port, I don't know. In that case of course you need a laptop with your mount, not everyone likes that.
