Problems with AZ-GTi equatorial set up.

#1

Post by DCN »

I recently bought a Sky Watcher AZ-Gti. It has worked fine in the Alt-Az mode but I was keen to get back into astro-photography so fitted a wedge and downloaded the latest equatorial firm-ware. My problem is that it sort of works, but is very inaccurate in the goto function being out by several 10s of degrees. I have been involved in setting up and solving telescopes problems for years, but this one has go me stumped. Any help would be appreciated. Remember I am in the southern hemisphere.

Since you're an experienced astronomer there's not much point suggesting the obvious things to check.

But you might want to compile a check list of your own to make sure you haven't missed anything obvious.

Otherwise, see if this helps:

Do you have counterweight?

What scope are you running on AZ-Gti? I have not tried it yet in EQ mode, but in AZ mode tracking and GoTo accuracy decreases with heavier scopes.
