Mount question from a noob.
Could the William Optics ZenithStar 73 APO be mounted on a EQ -6r mount?

Generally, any scope can be mounted on any mount. All you need is a dovetail bar mounted to the scope. Some scopes come with a dovetail already attached. Otherwise, you can attach one with a set of rings.

What is a dovetail? How can I know if the ZenithStar 73 has one?

Re: Mount question from a noob.
A dovetail is the metal bar that fits into the “shoe” that holds the scope tube on the mount. Scope goes into rings, the rings are screwed into the dovetail, dovetail goes into shoe. Some people call them mounting rails.
Be aware that there are different styles of dovetails like Vixen for example and they’re not usually interchangeable because they have different shapes although they’re all bars.

Re: Mount question from a noob.
If this what your WO looks like, the bar at the bottom IS the dovetail bar and you can mount this directly onto the saddle of your mount.

Re: Mount question from a noob.
The two main styles are "Vixen" and "Losmandy". If your scope looks like the photo posted by JayTee, that is a Vixen bar, and is compatible with the EQ6 mount. The other style, Losmandy, is usually only used on larger scopes.

Re: Mount question from a noob.
The funky looking Celestron bar for a C8 for example is a Losmandy? Looks like it has radiator wings on the bottom. I ordered one of those by mistake awhile ago.

Re: Mount question from a noob.
I am not sure what bar you are talking about. The standard dovetail on an 8SE is a Vixen. A Losmandy bar is about twice as wide.

Re: Mount question from a noob.
Found it. The one I ordered was a CGE bar, which Highpoint lists as a Losmandy.
