StarShoot Autoguide and Sky-Watcher EQ6-R Pro setup

#1

Post by Rmdigby »

I have having trouble getting my Orion StarShoot Autoguider (running PHD2) to talk to my EQR-6 Pro mount. One of the points of confusion is the cable from the guide camera to the mount. Some help videos talk about not using the cable and others may use the cable. I have not found the right video yet that details not only the full setup, including cables, with all components talking to each other. I have never been able to get the corrections graph on PHD2 to display anything.

My equipment and software in use are:
Orion StarShoot Autoguider
EQ6R Pro mount
PHD2
APT
ASCOM ( talking to mount from APT)

Any help or link to help is appreciated.

If you are using ASCOM, you also need to connect to the mount from PHD2. In this setup, the StarShoot sends images to PHD2 (because you have connected them in PHD2), and PHD2 sends the guide corrections to the mount (because you have connected them in PHD2 as well. The PHD2 connections screen should specify both:

Is this what your PHD2 connections screen looks like (other than you should use the same scope driver you are using in APT in your PHD2 setup).

Do I use the cable between the guide camera and the mount, or do I leave it off and let PHD2 send corrections straight to the mount?

My screen looks like yours.

As long as PHD2 "sees" your connection to the guide cam and to the mount (i.e. both are connected in PHD2) you do NOT need the ST4 cable between the guide cam and the mount.
