"Type Initializatin Error" in Skywatcher´s ASCOM Driver

#1

Post by Gujopedi »

Hi all!

Some time ago (may be 18 months) i could control my HEQ5 via APT without any problem,
using
Ascom Platform 6.3.0.2831
Win 10
Serial > USB2

But now i had to change the Laptop, because a new ZWO-ASI Camera needs a quicker Computer + USB3
And now I´m unable to connect the same HEQ-Pro-Synscan. :-((

Whenever i run click on "properties", an exception occurs (as well in APT as in N.I.N.A).

Therefore i tried ASCOM- Diagnostics, without any further Program
Platform 6.5 SP1 6.5.1.3234 Win 10; Serial > USB3 Converter; starting with connectd or unconnected mount
History of clicks and windows:> Choose device
> Chose and connect Device
> Select Device Type : Telescope
> Choose
A sub_window opens "ASCOM Telescope Chooser"
I select Sky Watcher Telescope
Then the final click on "properties" opens the error message Window "Driver setup failed:"ASCOM.Skywatcher.Telescope"
System.TypeinitializationException: Der Typeninitialisierer für "ACOM.Skywatcher.Location" hat eine Ausnahme verursacht.
Bei ..." (see attached Photo)

B.t.w.: It´s not caused by a failing Serial-USB Adapter; i tried several with different chisp-sets.
Any hint&help is appreciated

Günther

Hi Günther,

Does your new laptop have a USB2 port? If it does try plugging the mount into that port and see if it works. Most mounts like USB2 and ASCOM is known to have issues with USB3 with some devices. I'm sure the camera will be fine on USB3.

What make and model of Laptop are you using now?

Hi Gordon,

thank You for the quick response.

I use a Lenovo Thínkpad E 540 with two USB3 and one USB2 port. None of them works fine :-((
The Desktop PC is a powerful one and offers only USB3.

In the meantime a strange coincidence happened:
Since today a friend of mine suffers from the same problem: HEQ5-Ascom Initialization error concerning the location coordinates.
And he uses the Synscan WLAN Wifi dongle!

Strange???

sincerely

Günther

Just out of curiosity, are you using EQMOD? If so are those drivers current?

Hi Gordon,

no i don´t use EQMOD.
Until now i was happy with APT. Learning now the basics of N.I.N.A.

In the meantime we have found a work around for our problem:

Not to use the common Skywatcher-Driver for ASCOM, but for the SYNSCAN_Mobile_App_Driver.
The SYNSCAN_PRO_APP runs fine via USB und via WLAN-Wifi
and cooperates smoothly with APT and with NINA.

So I´m happy.

Thank You for Your assistance

All the best

I´ll do so, Gordon,
as soon as the clouds are gone away.

In the meantime You can see at astrobin Image,
that i´m struggling with the right distance between Komacorrector and sensor. :-(

Hello,

I had the exact same problem and wanted to simply share my thoughts and my (half)solution:

The problem itself is, I think, created by a bug in the Ascom driver from skywatcher. I went through the logfiles and saw that whenever the GPS-Location is read out from the Ascom property editor, the dot of the real-value is not read properly: for my location 52.123 the driver reads 52123 > 90 -> error. The value is read once you open the 'property'-window inside the 'chooser'. Once you open that, the error pops up and there is no way to connect to the mount.
What I found out works is the following:
Re-Install the skywatcher-ascom driver. Open the chooser and the property window for your mount ONCE. Type in your parameters, close. Then connect to your mount. After closing the connection do NOT ever open the property-window again!! You can still connect to the mount by simply choosing the mount but without prior opening of its properties. However the Software still reads out the correct GPS-coordinates and i think it takes those from the hand-controller. It does that correctly and you can connect and disconnect to your mount without any problems. JUST NEVER EVER OPEN THE PROPERY WINDOW!!

That worked for me

Hi Günter!

I have had similar problems and looking at the Release Notes from Skywatcher, it seems that a workaround is in place starting with version 1.19.16 (as of 2022-01-19). This version, however, is only available with the "Android App Version", not the Windows Version which still is at version 1.19.15:

"# SynScan App Release Notes

## 2022-01-19 v1.19.16
• Workaround for Android 12 crashing when reading location sensor. For Android:
• not read location sensor during app startup
• not use location sensor by default, and ignore previous read location sensor settings
• ensure location sensor works before saving the setting to use it automatically
"

But have I understood you correctly - you now control your mount using an Android device, not Windows??

Kind regards,

/Sven, Sweden (and E-eye, Spain)
