EQ-6 R doesn't know where i am...help!

#1

Post by graywmj5 »

HI all,

Just setting up the EQ-6R mount and all seems to be working well with one exception. The mount has no idea where in the world I am. I think I input the coordinates correctly, (N32.55, W110.35, 1017Meters). I also input the proper time zone.

I did my alignment using polemaster. The first star suggested for alignment was Arcturus which was just above eye level to the west. The mount pointed the scope straight up. Mars was high in the Eastern sky, and it told me it was below the horizon.

I am sure i have made a simple keying error, but i input the information numerous times without any change.

If someone could point me in the right direction, I would truly appreciate it.

Thanks, Bill

After checking coordinates on google earth your N32.55 W110.35 puts you 12 miles almost due East of Dudleyville Arizona.
Is this right? Your location on forum says New Orleans.

Earlier in the day Arcturus would have been straight up and Mars would have been below the Eastern horizon. Is your clock set correctly?

Regards

Graeme

if none of your settings are working, try releasing the clutch let it slew to a target and then manualy move the scope to that target and lock the clutch back on ,then slew to another target . my new mount has a bug where if the power goes out on the pc and you reconect the mount it will make both the ra and dec exactly 180deg opposite ..

Did you start your star alignment from the Home position? That is easily overlooked after completing the polar alignment. If the alignment didn't start from the Home position, it literally doesn't know which direction it is pointing. This is the most common reason for bad slews to alignment stars.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I did the factory reset, and put in my information again. It was spot on after that.

Thanks so much for your suggestions, Bill
