Mount madness

Just ordered an AZ5 mount only from FLO in the UK to complement my new M1V and "old" TW1.

I suppose one of them will have to go, but I want to do some comparisons before deciding anything.

And it appears my TW1 encoders will work on the AZ5:

Now we cookin'! :P I am a little concerned about possibly damaging them though if I try to take them off the TW. Oh well, life is risky.

Why not the AZ-GTi instead of the AZ5 for slightly more? Then you could leave the encoders on the Tw1.

I am guessing there is no way to mount encoders on the M1V?

The M1V has no way of mounting encoders that I can see. I think I'm mistaken on the AZ5 encoders. There are two mounts with that name - one is a TW1 clone and then there's the Skywatcher which is what I ordered and looks quite different. Oh well, maybe the internal hardware is similar enough that TWs could be used. We shall see.

The only ones I know that will fit the SV M1V mount are the Argo Navis: http://wildcard-innovations.com.au/mnt_hw_describe.html
The newer Nexus system may fit your mounts.

Five days via DHL from the UK. It takes longer to get things from California via USPS or UPS than that. German efficiency?

Looks good and I like the shorty slo-mos knobs. Not as smooth as my M1V, but I haven't tried adjusting the stiction and it's probably not a fair comparison anyway since the AZ5 has geared slo-mo.

It feels sturdier to me than my Twilight 1. Have to test it once the weather clears.
