I like my SVP.
It's sturdy. It's well built. It's modified for the synscan Goto system.
The SVP is maxed out with the factory supplied package- the SVP 8" newt. 203mm f/5. Kinda blows. It came with a camera adapter!!!?
The motors strains and skips at high rate of speed. This ruining alignment. The cords are too short, and have too be watched as they could pull out of socket on Dec motor.

Some customers complained about the knobs, said they were cheap, and recommended "Bobs's knobs." My knobs were removed for the goto setup. All I have left are fine tune R.a and clutches. They are sturdy.

So yeah, solid mount.

Are the circles readable? I'm thinking about a manual SVP head on my Manfrotto 475 if I can find one without a tripod.

The circles are readable and accurate. I've located Messiers and split doubles.

What are settling times like?
I normally do not recommend putting a 200mm Newtonian on a EQ-5 as they can shake badly at times.
Good to hear it is working for you though.

The R.a is in 10 minutes
The Dec is 10 degrees.

I have my 8" newt reflector on it. Factory package. SkyViewPro8
203mm x 1000mm f5.

I bought the SVP 8" vs a 8" Dob with the intention of adding axis drives to make it goto. Right after acquiring said scope, Orion discontinued the axis drives. Is there an alternative set of drives and goto that is available?

As far as I recall, the Skywatcher kits for both drive and goto are the same. I don't recall what SW calls their SVP though.
