Meade ETX-90 on Meade DS-2000 mount

Post by DennyD »

Would a Meade DS-2000 mount be a good one for my Meade ETX-90, or am I better off using a stock non-motorized ETX-90 mount?

If you already own the DS-2000 mount it will work, you will need rings and a dovetail bar to connect the 90mm to it of course.
If you are looking at purchasing the DS-2000 mount I would want to make sure it is functioning well before purchasing as it is a discontinued mount and parts to repair it will be hard to find.

Dean,

If I remember correctly you still have the DS 2000 goto mount, it's the tripod you're having issues with, correct? If so, don't purchase another DS 2000 tripod. The tripod you should be looking for is called the Meade field tripod. This is a much beefier tripod than the DS 2000. I have found two of them used (both for less than $50) and I use them underneath all of my goto mounts whether they be Meade or Celestron. Look on the Astro-classified sites for a Meade field tripod.

Cheers,
JT

If you have the ETX Base the Field Tripod is very good. The OP didn't mention if he had the goto base for the ETX-90 or just the OTA. I purchased my ETX-90EC with the EC Base but the Elevation gear was broken. I found someone selling a Observer Base and it was a easy swap (and works great too.)
Telescopes/Mounts : Explore Scientific ED102 or Celestron C6N on AVX, 8SE OTA on ASGT, NexStar 114GT/AZ, Meade ETX-90EC w/ Observer Base, Orion XT10i
Binoculars: Pentax 10x50
Camera : ZWO 533MC Pro, Canon EOS Rebel T6, ZWO ASI224MC

Clear Skies,
