1) Meade replaced the bolt c-ring on newer models with a bolt that has a spring and nut configuratiorn.
2) A Do-It -Yourself- "Springy Thingy" suggested by several forums uses 3 hefty springs that have one end attched under the tripod top and are attached to a washer with nuts along the middle of the bolt that spring loads the tripod bolt into the base of the scope.
Has anyone out there used either of these adaptations to the field tripod bolt? Help. Don't know how effective either of these are. The Meade solution is quick and cheap but I don;t know how it works. The SpringyThingy requires some metal drilled holes and asssembly. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
