LX850 12" f/8 GPS, Mount flipping

#1

Post by turonrambar »

Hello to Meade enthuses,

Last night I was aligning my telescope and was successful. Well after two hours of using GoTo
feature the mount wanted to flip. Well, I didn't follow through with mounts request.
I thought the mount wouldn't flip until sometime later, like early in the morning?
I've checked my mount's time, date and location. But, it acts like the mount thinks
that it is in Southern Hemisphere. This system is all new to me, it kind of like a
LX200 system but different enough to through me a curve ball when I'm use to a fast ball.
I love learning something new, and I am a "Happy Camper."
Is there anyone that can enlighten me on my telescopes new behaviors and my ignorance.

Clear Skies,

The object you were viewing/ imaging may have been close enough to the meridian and mount slew limits that it wanted to do a flip to continue tracking.

Thanks Lady Fraktor,

I thought about that, and I guess I could of got out the book and checked.
I assumed that the Meridian flip was a early morning thing. Those late night
and early morning observing sessions on Star Parties brings back memories of
Meridian Flipping, but not at 10PM in the evening. And that is what I get for assuming.
I'll be more involved in my sessions, but learning a new system detracts from the
night skies rolling by silently in the night. I'm not use to being in a dome too.
Thanks for your feedback.

The meridian is a arbitrary N/S line at your location, splits East from West skies.
