CEM60 Balancing

#1

Post by ic_1101 »

Just wondering what other CEM60 owners do as far as balancing the mount. When I first got my mount I balanced east side heavy when imaging west and didn't adjust it for the meridian flip. For the past 2 years though I just balance it neutral. I was reading somewhere that iOptron recommends to balance the mount to neutral.
I didn't see any difference in guiding accuracy either way.
What do you guys & gals do?

Yes, these days, I just balance it neutral. Since I often image over the flip, choosing a "heavy" side is too complicated.

On the other hand, I am still chasing really good guiding in RA, so I might try different things.

Thx Kathy, i'm not complaining about my guiding as I normaly get an RMS between .6-.9arcsec. Just wondering if I could improve on that by trying to balance differently.
My biggest issue is usually the seeing and as my new home is on a high elevation escarpment the wind.
