Serial connection with CEM120?

#1

Post by turboscrew »

Has anyone managed to connect to CEM120 via either RS232 or USB directly using a serial terminal?
If, then what kind of "woodoo" does it take?

A-ha. When the command manual says that the first command should be :MountInfo# the command should, actually, be :DeviceInfo#.

It looks like iOptron has its own command language. So far there were only two protocols, LX200 and Nexstar but this one looks different.

What kind of commands do you want to execute that the hand control cannot give you? Or is this to check if the hand control is broken. I know some OnStep people issue commands when they are desperate, it's useful to get a response back so you know it's alive.

Here's the command language spec.
https://www.ioptron.com/v/ASCOM/RS-232_ ... 14V310.pdf

It still says:
Initialization sequence
To properly initialize the mount with your software, you must issue the following commands when
you establish your link:
:MountInfo#
The hand controller doesn't have option of setting target by alt/az coordinates. That would be handy for testing the gear - if it binds or not (when I get my mount back from repair). Otherwise (and this far) I have to find suitable star locations from Stellarium and slew between them - at some pre-defined hours. And a week later, I have to find a new set of stars.

TTTTTTTT(T) 0.01 arc-seconds
s “+” or “–” sign, cannot be replaced by any other characters

:SasTTTTTTTT# // set target altitude
:SzTTTTTTTTT# // set target azimuth
:MSS# // slew to last defined alt/az
