Ioptron GEM45

#1

Post by Ngc1514 »

Just received a GEM45 from High Point and have an old orange tube C8 on it. Only had it out one night (Ohio in the spring is not known for endless sunny days. But then it’s not known for that during the rest of the year, either!) just to get familiar with the iPolar softwares. Everything smokes to be working great. I went with the 45 because the old CGEM I had was getting too heavy for me. The 17 lbs on the GEM is great!

That’s the plan. As much as I love my 16 incher... that is becoming a hassle to lug around. For a star party where you can set it up for 3 to 7 days, not bad, but to take out for one night, I’m just getting a bit too old for that.

The photo was taken at the Winter Star Party in the Florida Keys.

I have one of those too and I have my AT 152EDT on that mount. As you say lighter than the CGEM II but handles 5 more pounds.
