Hand Controller Mount

#1

Post by 515bonner »

Just wondering what other iOptron mount users are doing for a means of containing the hand controller.
On the now sold Celestron mount I had, there was a plastic snap on holster that mounted to the tripod leg for securing the hand controller.
It appears that iOptron doesn't have a device such as this, meaning the hand controller is left dangling. Doing a search I do not seem to come up with any solutions.
So how do you secure your hand controller?? Where do you put it when not in use?? Or did you find something that works??

I have a skywatcher tripod that doesn't have a cradle, so I fashioned a hook out of garden wire and made a loop of thinner insulated wire that I clamped between the two halves of the handset case.

That's one way to keep it from dangling in the wing.

A adhesive velcro strip on a tripod leg and the back of the HC works well

Velcro works well but I hate that sound of the hook & loop pulling apart...
I have som many points on the mount, I usually just hand the little loop over some point on the mount. For my CEM70EC there are the two AZ knobs that make the perfect spot to hand from.

Check and see if a magnet will stick to the leg of your mount. If so, then you could glue a magnet to the back of the HC and secure it that way.

I forgot to mention, that I found a site that sells various 3d printed hand controller mounts and other accessories.
I bought mine back in June of 2021 and it works like a champ.
The vendor is located at: https://buckeyestargazer.net/Store/HandController.php
Makes holders for a variety of controllers and tripods.
