It's definatly not old people that design these things. My 2 inch diagonal has no groove for the thumb screws to lock into and it can just slide straight out ... its definatly a heart stopper. I've put slots in the thumb screws so I can nip it up with a screwdriver but then Im scared I'll strip the thread haha .... I'm a thumbling expert.... its all part of growing old... Phill

Kind of an old thread (almost a year old), but had a similar experience with the AR127 and T2 a few years back. In the dark I didn't get it seated in the saddle quite right and started to let go and it tried to roll out toward me. Fortunately I still had my hand on the handle of the cradle and I caught it.

Also have had a couple of dobs tip over through my own fault. I had to hammer out the metal tube on one of them because it fell on the garage floor landing on the RACI which dented the tube where the finder attaches. So had to take off the trim ring and re-shape it a little (make it round again) then laid a cloth on the inside of the OTA where it bulged inward and using a small hammer tapped the dents back out. Got it good enough that the RACI sits level again and can be aimed properly. This stuff happens to most everyone at some point. But we just carry on. :)

put a safety bolt at the end of the dovetail bar on the scope, mainly the front end , you can even secure camer setup ect with 0.5mm wire rope to prevent it having a disater if you havn't secured it in the focuser properly .

i don't trust hand tight and knobs . i do my stuff up with allen keys or vice grips ...

At the old Astronomy Forum, there were strict rules about "necroposting." Here, we are much more forgiving.

However, I'd say it's much better to start a new thread than resurrect one that is almost a year old. Keeps the conversation fresh and alive. Just my two cents.

We are such a new site that "Necroposting" is not yet quite an issue. It will probably take a while before we start paying attention to that.

I do very much agree with this though.

Well, "necroposting" aside, this showed up in my "New Posts" list on Nov 1 2020.

Yes, dropping a scope, especially an expensive one, hurts in many ways....even just reading about it hurts! Glad you missed the full experience!
