Has anyone tried a C8 on a CG4?

I’m just curious, I have both.
I usually put the OTA on my Nexstar, but was just wondering if my CG4 could handle it for more of a grab and go.

I am sure it will handle it just fine.

Your CG-4 can handle up to 20lbs and your C8 OTA weighs just 12.5lbs, so give it a go and see how well the CG-4 likes the OTA.

Hi, Ylem,
Which C8 OTA are you discussing? I've got an original grey 1998(ish) Nexstar 8 - not 8i, 8 SE or 8 anything else. The mount has no AUX sockets so all of the more interesting accessories are impossible to connect.
I'm wondering if I can attach the OTA to a more modern mount, such as the SE, and gain this functionality. Do you have any thoughts?
Regards,
Alph

Purchasing tube rings, and/or a dovetail bar will allow you to mount it on any of the newer mounts.
I deforked my old Meade 8" SCT and bought a dovetail bar for it. Now it can ride on the CGX.
Good Luck!

I hadn't considered that method - I was wondering if the mountings were directly compatible. Thanks for the alternative possibility. I think the C8 has a dovetail bar and I suspect the design will be the same as on newer tubes. Tube rings will always work, however.

My C8 has a dovetail that I put on several years ago.

It was on a fork, wish it still was.
