CGX & or CGX-L internal battery?

#1

Post by UlteriorModem »

These Celestron mounts have an internal battery to maintain the real time clock.

I might be mistaken but I think the battery is actually in the mount head?

Has anyone had one open and seen the battery? Where is it located? What type of battery?

The manual makes no mention of the internal battery.

I was surprised to find a battery under the cover that the plug-ins are mounted on. While mine is only the CGEM there are only so many places too hide a battery!!!

My manual makes no mention of the battery either. It also fails miserably in the maintenance recommendations!!!!

Not that mine needs replacing or anything :D

I discovered the RTC got turned off after a factory reset of the controller. :asleep:

Still I am curious.

On past Celestron mounts the battery has been mounted on one of the motor boards, if you can open the covers you may find it.
Just hope they have not soldered it into place like they did with some of the SCT mounts.

First I heard! I'm going to have a look tonight. Not an issue for a camera, CPWI setup but a clock backup battery would be very useful for hand controller, eye piece viewing.

The Celestron GCX Mount Manual pdf page 10 says there is a RTC!

Doesn't tell you how to switch it on though!

Just been having a play with the hand controller. If you press the Menu button (4 or 7 I think!) then select Utilities, then select Switch on/off RTC, you can turn on the Real Time Clock and the date and time are stored. Each time you turn the mount on after that it remembers the time but still gives you the option to change it.

Hope that helps.

Regards

Graeme
