Corrected the date / time on my HC...

#1

Post by UlteriorModem »

Woops.. don't do that! :p

I noticed the last few nights that the time was incorrect on the hand controller. Tonight I decided to 'fix' that. Why I don't know it was working fine. Anyhow not only time was incorrect but the time as well.

Should have not fixed what was working.

The mount is totally lost in the weeds. Trying a blind solve and synch but it is taking forever! :flame:

All else fails, do a factory reset. :)

Well it was a struggle. I waited one time on a Blind solve for 15 minutes and gave up.

Finally in the end re booting the lap top seemed to 'fix' it and a blind solve took only moments as it used to. I think I got some frames but this morning the scope was not at its 'parked' position so something went wrong. I will have to go over the data and logs today.... sigh.

I have a question, the hand controller asks for a "Time Zone" as a number. Now I know I am in -4 UTC but the controller shows 13 ??? I don't understand this. Lat and Long were properly set, why does it also need a time zone???

Looked around but could not find the basic setup for a Nexstar HC :(

Seems like I've run into that time zone as a number issue before too, and like you looked everywhere for the information and could not find it. I resorted to scrolling further down in that particular menu and stumbled across the actually named time zones and chose the one appropriate for my location.

You would think that if you set your lat / long, current 'local' date and time, and dst yes or no that would be enough info!

What really irks me is it was working flawlessly before I 'corrected' the date and time and then it all went to pot. No idea what re-booting the controlling computer had to do with any of that. I had made the corrections before I connected to the lap top?

Anyhow I got a chance to review the data and the sequence completed, including a 4 panel mosaic of M45, why it did not park is beyond me. Might need to end the sequence a little earlier might be getting into the switch limits.

Okay well another sorta kinda clear night passing frustrating clouds but it got better.

The mount was however misbehaving again! Told it to slew to M27 and it pointed at the ground :Astronomer1:

It would solve and synch but the next target slew was way the heck off and gone!

So I took Bryan's advice (Thanks Bryan!) and did a factory reset of the HC. After the re-set while entering the data I came across the 'time zone' thing again, but this time instead of 13 :flame: I was able to put in -4 !

Re-started, Re-connected everything and it all seems to be in synch now.

But... I lost all my slew limits, switch limits, preferred approach, meridian flip settings, geeshe I probably lost side of pier too :twitch: Of course I did not have any of those settings written down so lets hope there is no pier crashes tonight :violin:

I got some more work to do :observatory:
