dead short?

Hi, seems my 130 Nexstar goto early model is dying. Hookup up power, dead short, smoke and boom, blew a capacitor in power supply. Replaced capacitor on board (16V 220uf), hook up power seems ok, no smoke or anything lol. Plug in hand held unit, comes on momentarily then snap, dead short again. I am thinking this is too old to try to repair if I can even find parts.
I bought this used and I know someone was in there before but dont know what they did. Any ideas, suggestions as to best way to goÉ Anyone with similar experience?
thanks for any help.
I am leaning to a new telescope but not sure which way I should go. I have an 8 inch dobsonian on loan. I would love something portable and powerful.
G.

Check that the connection pins are all clean and straight, they can bend or corrode over time.
Check the wiring and connectors inside as well, something may be coming loose.

Do you have a budget in mind and what are your favourite types of targets?

Start looking on eBay for another used Celestron SLT mount. I picked one up last year for $70.
