Anybody had pc troubles after connecting hc/mount?

#1

Post by StarLord101 »

So I finally finally managed to get a working avx mount after some significant headaches and ordeals. I eagerly plugged in the mount via the celestron hand control USB port. Windows 10. After sitting back down I notice the hc is saying something like checking inventory or something.

I go to use my keyboard, and it's acting like it's on crack. Only some keys work no matter what... I thought that's weird, this calls for a reboot, except this time I load into a desktop with white icons that is completely unresponsive other than moving mouse. A few more reboots and now I'm only getting windows spinning circle before log in screen endlessly. None of the f keys at boot will get me to safe mode or bios, no error messages, just the spinning.

The only difference between working perfectly and this state was a few mins after plugging in the mount. Although it's disconnected, the problem remains and I cant get into bios or safe mode at all now. I'm guessing possibly a driver conflict or something, but has anyone encountered something like this or any kind of pc problem after connecting astro hardware?

Ok, so good news is I'm back up and running, bad news is that I don't have a clear cut explanation. However, I think possibly something went horribly wrong when I connected the avx mount between it's driver and, as weird as this sounds, my keyboard. Fast forward to hours of troubleshooting into the early am, and I was finally able to restore windows or actually even get any kind of response when I disconnected my keyboard. The first symptom was they keyboard input going crazy, but there was never an issue until I plugged in the mount. Maybe some kind of conflict? Case closed

Have you tried swapping out the cable that attaches your HC to your laptop and do you have the latest ASCOM driver for Celestron mounts? DON'T connect through CWPI!!! There have been massive issues with this software title and how it doesn't like the ASCOM drivers.

Well I got my pc back up and running properly, which may have been a conflict issue somehow between a wireless keyboard and the serial to USB driver in the hand controller. Thanks for the info about cwpi and ascom. I had not come across that before. What happens?

Now, this is only a suggestion, but I reckon Windows misidentified the scope driver. Probably best to plug it in with a wired keyboard attached - if that all goes well, then boot down, and then up with the wireless, then attach the scope. Hopefully all will be peace and light.
Cheers,

Tony.
