Help

Post by Mack41 »

Hi
I want to try using my Altair 178c as a guide camera, I’ve searched YouTube but found nothing to tell you where all the cables go.
I take it the guide camera and the main camera go to the laptop via usb but then from the laptop do I go into the guide port of the mount or an aux port ?
Scopes: skywatcher evostar 72ed, Altair Starwave 152
Mounts: skywatcher eq5 pro, celestron advanced gt
Camera’s:Altair hypercam 183m, Altair hypercam 183c, Altair gpcam 178c, celestron starsense

So long and thanks for all the fish

First off, make sure you have the ASCOM drivers loaded on your laptop. Both my imaging and guide cameras are connected to USB ports on my laptop. The third USB cable goes to a USB to serial converter and that ends in a plug that I plug into the bottom of the hand controller. I find this gives me the most options in both aligning and slewing my scope. After you have plugged in your USB to serial cable make sure you check which com port has been activated. This is an important number you have to input into the ASCOM setup screen for your mount. You should be using the generic Celestron ASCOM drivers.

Let us know how this goes.

Cheers,
JT
