Just when I thought I had my guiding with PHD2 figured out I think I believed I was living in the land down under???? I read I am to line up -+ 10 degrees of Celestial Equator, within 1 hour of Celestial Meridian.....so I'm looking South? I thought I was to be looking North. I mean I have been getting some good calibration despite having a AVX mount but I keep having a little backlash. could my bass-ackwardsness be the problem?
No, the AVX is known for its large amount of dec and RA backlash. it is a physical characteristic of this mount and is not exacerbated by where you calibrate in the sky.
For PHD2, what the manual is telling you is find a star near the intersection of the meridian and the celestial equator and calibrate off that star. It doesn't need to be spot-on just reasonably close.
Cheers,
JT

Sorry, what is the question exactly? Are you trying to polar align, concord nc list 35 deg North, the mount should be facing north and aligned 35 deg above the horizon

Ohh is op doing drift alihhnment? Basicly up for longitude adjustment north or south and a bit above the horizon west or east for latitude adjustment, within 30 deg or so is good enough

If you will be guiding with ASCOM pulse guiding, you want to calibrate with the scope facing south, somewhere near the equator. It doesn't have to be exact, but that will give you the best calibration.
If you will be guiding with an ST-4 cable, you should calibrate near your target, wherever that is, especially if it is at a high declination.

No this was about calibartion. I've got the PA down pretty good with ASPA.
Wherever you calibrate, it can still work. Best practices dictate that you should calibrate to the south, near the meridian and the celestial equator (if you are using ASCOM, as Kathy stated)

In the Northern hemisphere the scope will point South to be near the Celestial equator and the Meridian, just like the diagram you included shows. The point you want to be near is where the red line and the orange line cross.
