mount not responding to centering

Post by 1jimalexander »

Don't know if this is the right place for this issue but here it is.

I've gone back to my Orion EON 104 ED-X2....after having been using another scope for the last 2 years.
I'll be selling or trading in the entire system and I'm verifying that everything works.

When I choose "center" in SGP after slewing to the given coordinates, the plate solve routine captures a picture, analysis it and displays the RA and Dec errors. So far, so good.

After finding a match, It re-analysis and reports values almost identical to the initial errors. Same with each successive correction.

Here's an interesting note. When it completes the five failures it gives a message that the solve has been completed successfully.

I've checked all the required settings and I believe I'm good.

It seems like the mount isn't getting the signal from the program but I'm not sure how to trouble shoot.

Thanks in advance, Jim

    Hi Jim,

In addition to SGP which platesolve software are you using?

    I use Platesolve2.
My hand control is Synscan with the serial adapter.
I have an extra Synscan cable with serial adapter I'm going to swap that out to see if it changes anything.

This looks like a good alternative to Platesolve2.
I've used Platesolve2 for years without major issues and I don't want to introduce something new at this point.
I may reinstall SGP but I think there's something that's preventing the mount from receiving a signal from the computer.
I'm hoping someone who has had the same issue and solved it sees this post. I've spent 3 nights now trying to get past this problem.
The initial error when I slew to the coordinates is in the 10000 px range so my alignment probably needs attention, although I can't imagine that's the problem.
      Thanks Gordon,
      Jim
