setting up post monsoon, guiding fail

#1

Post by graywmj5 »

HI all,

Now that monsoon season here seems to be behind us, I am in the process of re-establishing my scope.

My gear: LX85, 70MM quad APO, ASI1224 guide, ZWO miniguide scope.

Before taking the scope down, I was getting excellent guiding and taking 5 min subs was no issue whatsoever.

Now, it is a total fail and there seems to be no communication between PHD2 and my mount. I am using the Meade Ascom generic driver, and the mount shows to be connected.

When i do the manual tracking, I get the response "Pulse command to mount has failed". The hand controller does move the mount, and the three start alignment works okay.

I would appreciate any insight on how to troubleshoot this problem.

Thanks in advance, Bill

is the computer connected to the mounts hand controller instead directly ?, double check your comport settings, sometime connecting equipment to a different usb socket can change what comport it uses .

when you say the mount is connected but not in phd, is that via to the mounts software ? sorry i've never used a meade mount .

does your mount use a st4 port for guding or use pulse guiding ?

Thanks for the quick response! I connect to the PC using this :Meade 505 Telescope to PC Control Cable CP2102 RS232 RJ10 Serial Adapter Converter Connector Autostar Audiostar Cable Compatible for ETX127 ETX125 ETX-90 LXD75 LX80 LX90 (3.2 feet)

goes into my USB hub. I will have at look at the assignments on the com port. I have to believe this is a software issue since it was working so well originally.

Thanks, Bill

In almost all cases, problems like this are caused by bad / intermittent cables. Check your cables, and if it's been a while since you plugged into your USB ports, check those too.
