HI all,

Just relocated to Az, and getting my gear set up. I am having issues with the Autoguiding and would appreciate any suggestions.

Using the ASi1224 with the ZWO mini guide scope. I am running the camera through the ASI183. I set up the proper specs in the PHD2 wizard for the camera and miniscope.

Every attempt at guiding so far has resulted in the process not getting past the West step and telling me that the calibration failed due to star not moving enough.

I have been trying to use "on-Camera" for my mount connection, but have tried all other offered and same results.

I would appreciate any suggestions as all else is going well and need to get past this bump.

Please post your guide log - it will help the analysis greatly.
One possibility is that your guiding rate is too low.

Are you using an ST-4 cable between the guide camera and the mount? The "On camera" mount selection is only for use with ST-4 cables.

Does the mount move at all during calibration? It is useful to monitor its movement during calibration. I can't remember now if it wants to move 50 pixels in 25 steps or 25 pixels in 50 steps, but by monitoring the movement in pixels (shown at the bottom of the screen during calibration), you can tell how much you need to increase the calibration step size. You can also tell if the mount is not moving at all, which usually indicates a connectivity or driver problem.

There is a function under the "brain" icon to calculate the ideal calibration step size. This assumes you are calibrating at low declinations. If you are using ST-4 guiding, you need to recalibrate every time you change declination, and the calibration step size will need to increase to accommodate the converging lines of RA.

You'll need to tell us what sort of mount you have and how you have it wired up. I can see from the log that you tried a variety of drivers for the mount but none of them worked. Basically the mount was not moving at all. If we know what the mount is we could point you towards the correct driver.

The mount is the Meade LX85. My guide camera is the ASI 1224, Guide scope is the ZWO mini scope. I have been running the USB from the guide scope through the back of my main camera, the ASI 183. I have not tried hooking the guide camera directly to my laptop. I have tried it with and without the J11 running from the guide port to the camera. Please let me know what other detail i need to include.

this might be a problem ,copied from your log .

phd needs to know your guide scope focal length so it can work out the pixel scale / arc seconds and how much to move the scope when correcting .

all in all, there many are reason why it could be failing, bad connection to the mount , the guide camera isn't updateing ie it is frozen , incorrect guiding command speed/settings .

the fact that phd hasn't shown the position of the mount gives me an indication that phd isn't talking to it,

you should see if phd can talk to the mount, there is an option to move the mount ,'' manual guide" you can also try the drift alighnment tool in phd, this will talk to the mount and give it coordinates to slew to .

okay, thanks again. just for some history, I was able to get this setup to guide properly during my last attempt in May. It was the same gear. I don't recall the exact configuration I used at that time.

i have determined that there is no communication between my laptop and the mount under any setting or combination of settings. The camera works fine. I do see that the USB i am using to connect the ASI1830 to my laptop is a 3.0, and the USB connecting the ASI1224(guide scope) is the old style 2.0. I am going to get the 3.0 for that and see if it helps. No idea that it will correct the issue. I am wondering if there is an issue with the mount, which I doubt. Is there a diagnostic?

i'm too familiar with meade software , can you get other software to communicate with the mount ?

typicaly you connect the mount to the computer with it's native software, then boot up phd and select the mount driver ( typicaly ascom) and connect the mount with the default programing running in the background .

aslo double check your com ports , sometimes they change .
