The Latest Setup Procedure from the Authors of PHD2

Post by JayTee »

From the guys at the PHD2 Google group.
https://www.google.com/url?q=https%3A%2 ... ZdOPr7xSGw

Here's another useful tidbit from PHD2 it is a mount exerciser.

If you want to use the mount exerciser test app, you can find the files here:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/c8ti7nnhwhy0 ... XKW3a?dl=0

Copy all the files into a folder on your system and run the MountExerciser.exe from there. The first time you run it, you need to use the ASCOM chooser window to select your mount interface. After that, the choice will be remembered and re-used. The app issues guide pulses in such a way that the mount doesn’t actually go anywhere so you don’t need to worry about that. But the mount will need to be initialized and ready to go just as you would normally do that for a night’s session. The main window of the test app will display the progress of the operation, including any errors, and all of the operations are logged. The app will run until you click on the ‘Stop’ button. It should be pretty obvious I think.

Cheers,
JT

Thanks for sharing this JT!

I have a question though if anyone has the answer... in the "PHD2 and EQMod ASCOM" link, which gives recommendations for how to set up EQMod, it says to disable pulse width override. However, I do not see that option anywhere. Do I have an older version of EQMod or something?

Thanks JT! I just need to get a night to try this!

One thing for sure that I will never see with my mount is for the GA to recommend “Backlash is small, no compensation needed”!

Hi JT,

Is the mount exerciser an application that a analyses mount operation? Not sure I want to see the result of that test! Might be depressing!

Jim,
You're absolutely right, this may be a case of ignorance is bliss. Or maybe, what I don't know can't hurt me.

I myself am not in a position right now where I can actually test out this app. I applaud you if you care to have a go at it to see exactly what it does.

I will download it on my imaging laptop in case I get "brave". I am itching just waiting for a clear night. Pretty slim pickings these days (well, actually none!).

My next targets are already high enough at dark to start imaging, so if I can chill out enough to spend a few minutes after the calibration and GA to run this thing, I will give it a shot and share.

Thanks JT!
