Astrophotography

#1

Post by Will18358 »

Hi Guys and Girls,
Looking to branch out into Astrophotography, Just the planets and moon to begin with.
I will be using a Skywatcher MAK 180 pro and a Skywatcher Evostar 80 ED DS PRO.
Having spent hours looking at and reading reviews, I am swayed toward the ZWO ASI 485MC?
Any observations/Ideas would be welcome.

Hi Will!

I suggest going to this website: https://astronomy.tools/calculators/field_of_view/

Click on the "Image Mode" button toward the top. Plug in the parameters of both your Mak and Evostar and the resolution/pixel size of the ASI485MC and choose an object (planets or Moon) and see what the resulting image scale will be.

Since I enjoy lunar imaging, this helped me choose a camera that would fit the full lunar disk in the frame using my Stellarvue SV102T. :)

Any of the ZWO small pixels, small-sized sensor cameras will work well for your intended purpose. I own and still use the ASI120MC and you can pick that up new for a song if you don't want to spend a lot of £££s. Later on, this same camera can be used as your guide camera so it can pull double duty.

Cheers

As another thing to consider, most of my shots are taken with a DSLR with no telescope attached:

I don't know about the ASI 485MC, I have an ASI 462MC that I have used for planetary with my Edge 11" from what I understand the ASI 485 is their newest line of planetary cameras. Your Evostar 80 would get you some descent wide view of some DSO objects and leave you wanting something BIGGER to really reach out. I myself am still having some difficulty with planetary, so I wish you luck on your endevor.
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most! :tease:
