Meade etx70 "HELP"
I purchased a secondhand Meade etx70 and I'm having problems finding the correct eyepiece adapter for the top mount that holds the lens. The hole is roughly 1.25" and my lenses are around a standard 1". Any help would be appreciated. It appears that the adapter may, or may not screw in to the top side with male threads. Ty

Welcome to TSS and thanks for joining us!
I've been out of touch on the astronomy stuff for the past year and a half, but I still have a few sparks in my brain on things. I'd recommend reaching out to Telescope Warehouse and see if Bill? can be of assistance on getting your scope sorted out. Good folks to work with. Here is the website: https://telescope-warehouse.com/

Re: Meade etx70 "HELP"
Eyepieces typically come in 3 sizes. Most common are 1.25" and then 2". A smaller size, 0.965" are fairly common for eyepieces that come with smaller telescopes or older ones. If your eyepiece barrels are truly just under 1", then you will need an adapter such as these in the links below:
https://telescope-warehouse.com/shop/ol ... 965-scopes
https://telescope-warehouse.com/shop/ol ... cope-metal
It appears that your focuser may also be missing a thumbscrew to tighten against an eyepiece or an adapter. You may be able to find a suitable replacement at your local hardware store.
Since I am a bit rusty, it may also behoove you to wait on some further replies by other members just in case I've headed off down the wrong road here.

Re: Meade etx70 "HELP"
I believe all the ETX 70 scopes take 1.25 inch eyepieces. I have not seen or heard of any ETX scopes that used anything but 1.25 inch, but I cannot state that there are none with .965 with absolute certainty. If the eyepiece holder is missing a set screw, then you will need one of those. Bill Vorce at Telescope Warehouse can help you. (telescope-warehouse.com) There should be a phone number or email address to contact him and he will know for sure what the size of eyepieces is.
I believe the thread size for a set screw is a standard 4mm. You may be able to pick something up at you local hardware store that will work, even though it is not built specifically to be a set screw. If you purchase something at the hardware store, take a fine toothed file, smooth up and round off any sharp points and edges on the tip that will touch the eyepiece barrel.
Hope this helps,
Bill Steen

Re: Meade etx70 "HELP"
I have an ETX60, essentially the same thing, and the eyepieces are 1.25 inch size. A standard .965 to 1.25 is all that is needed. But it would be better to get a 24mm to 30mm 1.25 inch entry level Plossel for comfortable normal wide field viewing. BTW, that set screw is really not needed as the scope should not be elevated past vertical anyway and nothing is going to fall out, but any hardware store has the necessary screw.
Good luck,
Steve

Re: Meade etx70 "HELP"
A lot of Hobby Shops also sell the small metric screws like 4mm etc.
Any metaphor will tear if stretched over too much reality.

Re: Meade etx70 "HELP"
The picture I submitted is one I found on ebay to post on here to show what I'm needing. My scope is missing the eyepiece holder. I was wondering what the part #of that is for the Meade etx70

Re: Meade etx70 "HELP"
If you contact Bill at Telescope-Warehouse he will be able to tell you, he likely has the part as well.

Re: Meade etx70 "HELP"
Welcome to TSS
My recommendation would be to pick up a couple of 1.25 EPs
Maybe a 15 and a 25mm to get started.
