I tried stellarium and night sky, and neither one of them worked well for me. Is there a good one that we use?

Sky Safari. It comes in both Android and iOS. There's three versions, the free version, the plus version for some dollars, and the pro version for a lot more dollars. It is the only sky app that I spent money on. It is totally worth it.

I have SkySafari Pro for my Mac and for the iPad - love it.

As JT said - they do have $$ cost - but they go on sale often enough that if you are paying full price, you are doing it wrong.

They are expecting SkySafari 7 to be released later this year - no date yet though, hopefully that's true.

Welllll, depending on how deep you want to go, there's this and you'll have to convert to alt / az if you're not using RA and Dec circles:

https://archive.stsci.edu/cgi-bin/dss_f ... ver=SIMBAD

Enter object name, hit "GET COORDINATES", set file format to "GIF", and hit retrieve image.

Otherwise, I use stellarium-web.org on my laptop. There's also theskylive.com and dreistein.nl had a really spiffy interactive atlas where you could also call up images from the DSS. Last time I tried dreistein though it looked like he was no longer maintaining it.

And one more: skymaponline.net

There is Cartes du Ciel which I prefer over Stellarium: https://sourceforge.net/projects/skychart/

Have tried using a planisphere?: https://www.davidchandler.com/products/ ... ar-charts/

There are also free downloads of skymaps and how to make planispheres.: http://www.skymaps.com/downloads.html

Have you tried using a sky atlas instead of electronic aids?
This is my preferred method at the telescope.

I use Sky Safari on my phone and tablet (both Android) and I love it. I'd recommend downloading the free version to see if you like it and if so, buying the lower-cost version of the two upgrades. The higher cost one only adds a bunch of really faint stars and galaxies that you and I would probably never need.
As for a PC app, I used to use Starry Night Pro and it was just "ok" in my book. I now use Stellarium almost 100% of the time on my desktop. I really like the way it so easily integrates into NINA and can be used to control the telescope position. Just click on an object to select it, then Ctrl+1 and the scope slews to target. Of course, that's after a bit of configuration in the settings.

Audio worked on my PC for that video, odd.

I couldn't get Stellarium to work through EQ Mod and ascom, I'm definitely suspecting operator error. I ended up using SynScan Pro and completely removed the hand controller. I configured the Stellarium plugin for external software/Remote computer and things started working. Then I figured out how to get Stellarium on a different PC to control the telescope by providing the host name of the PC running SynScan Pro. I suspect I can do the same thing with the SynScan Pro app too as it has a configuration for network with a spot for an IP address. I used to be a network engineer by trade and I love this kind of tech. Eventually I'll work up a step by step guide on how to do this and post it here.

I use sky safari plus on my tablet because the pro is just too heavy and doesn't load. The plus version is a bit like Uranometria in terms of content.

I do have paper atlases too. I often take Interstellarum out, or sometimes Uranometria. In the latter case I put leave the atlas in a plastic box so that it doesn't get soaked with humidity. The paper atlas remains opened - on a table - on the area of the sky investigated for that night. That helps me see "a bigger picture" at that magnification. I use the tablet for detailed zoom-in views instead, particularly when targets are small or faint, and I need more reference stars.

I just ordered a planisphere, red light, and binocular guide from David Chandler. I’ll let you know how they are.
