Quite honestly, I am VERY under-equipped and try to get the best i can with what I have. I don't like being poverty-shamed.

I wouldn't think you would either. With the exception of my KK Ortho's, all my stuff is second-hand and not the best or most recent. With my current budget, no APO's or even an ED for me

And like you Philip, I try to get the best I can with what I have as well. On here, I think that's all that really matters; is that we try :D

I should also add, the Admin/Mod team wouldn't tolerate someone doing that, trust me.

All the best,
Mark

"The Hankmeister" Celestron 8SE, orange tube Vixen made C80, CG4 & AZ-EQ5 mounts.
Too much Towa glass/mirrors.

H/A - PST stage 2 mod with a Baader 90mm ERF on a Celestron XLT 102 (thanks Mike!)
Ca-K - W/O 61mm, Antares 1.6 barlow, Baader 3.8 OD and Ca-K filters with a ZWO ASI174mm.
W/L - C80-HD with Baader 5.0 & 3.8 Solar film, Solar Continuum 7.5nm and UV/IR filters with a Canon EOS 550D.

Oh yeah, and Solar Cycle 25 :D

All the best,
I think, people here would rather help you to get the most out of what you have. And I'm more impressed by nice observations with humble equipment than average observations with very expensive high end equipment. Astronomy is doing observations, not owning stuff.

I have spent quite a lot money in my gear, but as an astronomer, I still belong to a kindergarten. But I'm trying and learning. (There is a history behind my gear: I promised to myself, when I was around 15 years old, that one day I'll have a 300 mm scope.)

Many thanks, Jay. I don't think I'm alone here. I've heard of many people who have had to sell all or most of their kit. Fortunately, I have not had to do this but upgrades and replacing faulty gear has been out of reach for a while.

Observing is a hobby and people spend on it as much or as little as they see fit, and on both ends there is a learning curve and productive discussions could be held.

So true!! I have to balance between guitars, telescopes and computers. My wife knows all the costs since she manages our finances. Thankfully she is very understanding!
