Guiding- follow that star!

#1

Post by Greenman »

Having finalised my back focus at 80mm on my guide scope and ASI224MC I had my first go at auto guiding last night. Good polar alignment, and tracking M51 the switched over to guide on the ASIAir, stars not bright enough for the Air to pick one automatically. Hereinafter lay my problem. I was picking stars that were too dim and the guider soon lost them.

Mind you, I was able to image for 3 minute subs, and the ASIAIR successfully conducted a median flip, plate solved, centred and continued gracefully on it way.

I can say this little box is accelerating my learning curve, sure there are some glitches, but when aren’t there? Main cause of glitches, looks around suspiciously, yep - me.

Cheers,

Tony.
