Is this safe way to carry a mount?

Is this a safe way, or could that break something?
Gears OFF, locks ON. Without the counterweight bar and Tri-pier, of course.

Do not carry a EQ mount with the locks on as any bumping/ vibrations can jam them on causing damage.
Always transport with the locks off. (allow free movement of all parts)

For lifting I would lift from one axis only so you are not bending the two axis towards each other.
How about a HPRC or Pelican case filled with foam instead for transport?

For anything above light duty grab and go mounts I always disconnect the mount from legs for carrying/transporting. If just want to lift and move short distance I grab it by mount base or pier.

Thanks!
I have tried to find big enough case. Haven't found one yet.
The case needs to be 50 cm x 41 cm x 23 cm minimum. Even the biggest Geoptics bag is too small.
There are bigger hard suitcases, but I doubt they can handle 27 kg.
There are bigger boxes, but they tend to be of wrong shape to carry, like 40 cm x 50 cm x 70 cm.

HPRC or Pelican cases would take the weight but are expensive though you are guaranteed your equipment will survive.

You did not signify your measurements as WxHxD so am not sure if this would work.
I use HPRC cases for overseas air travel and they have survived considerable abuse by many airlines.

CEM120 weights 27 kg and Tri-pier 19 kg. And there are stairs and doors...

Yes. I happened to find 3 candidates: Peli1610 (~600€), Peli Storm IM2720 (~600€) and HPRC 2710 (~449€).
Now, if I find a seller in Europe... There's one in Finland, but, of course, their web shop is being updated.

Kind of stupid - just for carrying the mount head in and out the house.

If you signup for the HPRC newsletter you can receive 15% off your purchase.
At least it would cover most of the VAT charge :)

One problem with hard cases that they add extra few kg. This is why for my 9.25" SCT OTA I have decided to go with a sturdy padded bag and not drop it.

A friend uses a dolly: https://www.astroshop.eu/instruments/as ... r_1_select

His is DIY. He also had to make shallow ramps for either side of the threshold.

I must be getting old, since my first thought was that it doesn't look safe at all; you could hurt your shoulder or lower back!

I am old and worry that I might hurt myself moving my little Twilight 1 around. I don't know how you guys can do it. 🙃

Turboscrew has the same moving issue I have, stairs so a dolly is not that useful. :)

I would connect mount an tripod with a strap that goes over your shoulders and carry them both at once. It will be much easier because you will be balanced.

I was thinking about that too - except that I'd have to make the bag myself. A piece of wood in the bottom and some foam on top of it. Nylon strap handles going under the whole bag. The straps are just P.I.T.A. to sew.

It's not so much the weight, but the shape. But yes, the cases tend to add about 10 kg to the load to carry.

This should work nicely. To reduce the weight and provide extra cushion you can use the office/workshop black foam tiles instead of wood. Just cut to desired size.

Is there supposed to be an attachment or link?
I wonder if the tiles can keep the bottom flat under 27 kg?

A 40 cm piece of 1x6 wood with some foam on top of it should keep the bottom flat and spread the pressure.
Some foam could be glued on the sides too.

I can see and click on the link. Let's try this one

If you stack 2-3 at the bottom it will be flat enough, but wood/foam combo should work well to.

With the mount weighing 27kg I cannot see foam panels working to carry it around with.
A strong plastic storage container filled with the foam panels would work.
