First try with astro pics

We all started somewhere! We are a friendly bunch! Most of your questions can be posted here, but if you are interested in Astrophotography please use the new Beginner Astrophotography forum. The response time will be much better.

First try with astro pics

Last night I tried my hand at astro photos. The Moon and Jupiter.
Used my ancient (1960's vintage) Criterion DynaScope 6" and an SV105 camera.
Tracking motor still performed well. Had scope "almost" polar aligned.
Here's what I got.


Still got a lot to learn.

Hi Dennis. A superb first try with astro pics. You caught the Rupes Altai ridge ending at the Crater Piccolomini in fine style at the center right side of your nice contrast lunar image. And your Jupiter capture shows nice equatorial belting and three Galilean moons too. Hats off to you Dennis, and thanks for sharing this fine work with us on here.

They're really good for a first go.

It's not easy to get both the Jupiter surface detail and Galilean moons in the same exposure!

Great images. Be careful, the AP game is a slippery slope. :D
