Twilight 1 lube

Do I need to lubricate my twilight 1 mount.

Is it not functioning correctly? Do you feel it needs lube?

Some people routinely degrease the gears and regrease with synthetic or whatever grease, but I've felt the need to do that to my Twilight 1.

IMO, it's an "ok" mount, not a great mount mechanically, so I don't know that a degrease / regrease is going to improve performance tremendously unless your grease has turned to sludge. YMMV.

I'll add that I'm the kid who always takes his toys apart but this is one that escaped that. It seems to be just fine as is.

I just bought the same Explore Scientific 102mm First Light. I called customer support right away because I could not get the mount to move. It was new, of course, just stiff. But before they called back, I took it apart. The grease is heavy. It shoiuld not need lubricating soon. That said, my time in factory automation taught me that lubrication is good. I used mineral oil on all of the threads as I put it together.

And there was one time ... with a different telescope, I did over-do it and had to take the mount apart and use a bit of solvent to clean up the lube job.
