Artifact in full moon shot
I recorded a video of the full moon, processed it in PIPP and got it to choose the best quality frames, I then stacked the 1200 frames in Registax, after I limit and see the final image I end up with a weird dark area at the bottom.
Could anyone tell me what it is and how to fix it?

Re: Artifact in full moon shot
Like you I use PIPP and then I use AutoStakkert! 3. I believe Registax is responsible for that image shift. It looks like one of the color channels has shifted and that's what you're seeing.

try stacking with auto stakkert if you keep facing problem.

Re: Artifact in full moon shot
I think thats an image shift somewhere in the stacking....ive had this before.
If you zoom in you can see its a "duplicate" misaligned.

To be clear, and taking into account the other great advice... If you use PIPP, save the output asSirTalllPaul wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 5:37 am I recorded a video of the full moon, processed it in PIPP and got it to choose the best quality frames, I then stacked the 1200 frames in Registax, after I limit and see the final image I end up with a weird dark area at the bottom.

Re: Artifact in full moon shot
Thanks for the advice everyone.
I tried PIPP then AS! but it gave me an even worse artifact, once I bumped it down to 120 frames in PIPP with the quality estimation it processed fine.
This is the final, I didn't use wavelets because that is something else I need to learn (I loaded a wavelet scheme someone posted in a tutorial for the moon but as it had already been sharpened in AS! it looked weird).

Re: Artifact in full moon shot
It certainly looks better than the first try! Sometimes Registax can make things worse as you saw. As for the wavelets, #1 is a very fine detail adjustment where #6 is a very course detail adjustment. Sometimes "less is more" and you can sharpen the image better with something like Photoshop.SirTalllPaul wrote: ↑Thu Aug 06, 2020 6:22 am Thanks for the advice everyone.

Re: Artifact in full moon shot
On my very latest set of planetary images viewtopic.php?f=70&t=12391. I experimented and used "Wavelets" AFTER PSCC and kept their inputs very small. I liked the results.
Cheers,
