Micro focuser

Post by Bearcatrp »

Not sure if thats the correct name for them. Finding out my not so steady hand really shakes the telescope when trying to focus. Meade does not make one for my telescope. Looked at others. Are they worth the money? Work good?

Starlight instruments only makes their Feather Touch Microfocuser for the Meade 10" and 12" SCTs.

Your scope does not give you a whole lot of options when it comes to getting a better focuser. You can somewhat modify how you use the focusing knob though. Find a small plastic jar lid something like a small jar of peanut butter would use. Cut a hole in it so that it fits snugly over your focusing knob. A larger diameter knob allows a smaller increment of motion.

Unfortunately, there's not a lot that can be done about the telescope shaking when you try to focus. The only remedy to that is an electric focuser and I am not aware of any that fit on your scope.

Cheers,
JT

What about something like an Orion Accufocus?

It is a motor that attaches to the focuser shaft so that you can focus with a hand controller and not touch the scope focus knob.

My Nexstar 130 SLT is hard to focus by hand because the mount shakes badly. The Accufocus took care of that.

Just an idea.

An electronic one is what I am wanting. Some some generic ones. That Orion looks good but have to look at the details to see if it will work. Like the idea on a peanut jar lid. That’s interesting.

Juno16 Because his scope is a Mak, his focus knob is on the back of the mirror, not on the focuser tube shaft. There is no place for him to affix the electric focuser. That's why his scope is so problematic.
