Hard case for Telescope

#1

Post by Bearcatrp »

My telescope came in yesterday. Was looking to see if Meade made a specific case for it but guess not. Starting to look at generic hard cases. Anyone go this route have a recommendation? Don't want a soft case. Thanks.

It depends on how much you want to spend, some people are quite happy using Rubbermaid style containers and others like harder cases such as HPRC or Pelican
I personally use HPRC cases for traveling.
If you enjoy woodworking you can always make your own as well.

Found one that might work at harbor freight. Just did some measurements so will go to the store tomorrow to see how it may work.

That looks like a nice case, if they sell extra pluck foam for a reasonable price you may want to grab some.

Sidenote - the pluck foam in my small Apache case tends to separate. By that I mean that the little rectangular pieces don't stay attached to each other, at least where they're only one layer thick. I might resort to gluing them together rather than repacking them each time. Or I could get more foam and try to ensure that the "dividers" are thick enough.

Going to look at this one too. A little bigger inside but not as long and not handle to drag behind. Thats fine though. Just want something to protect the tube and computer control mount when moving. Am careful anyways so thing one of these will work fine.

Picked it up yesterday. Was hoping for enough room for the base but to tight. Will get another.

Just a suggestion but I would turn the foam 180° so when you pick the case up the heaviest object (telescope) is at the bottom so it does not push the foam down around your accessories.

Thanks for tip on switching positions. My case cost $89.00, which is a pretty stout case. Wasn't sure if it would be good to keep base attached so decided to keep separate. Will be getting a second case.
