What Power Tank Do You Use

#1

Post by lsintampa »

So, I've my first goto mount (AVX) and I'm wondering what power tank I should consider.

I'm looking for maybe 5 hours at most, typically 1-3 hours any given evening.

Harbor Freight has 17Ah packs for a good price and they will last a few years if properly maintained.

Whatever you decide, you'll eventually need more juice.

When you factor in a guide camera, dew heaters, USB hubs and astrocameras, that 17Ah will go fast. You might not have all the gear right now, but you will acquire it and your last power tank becomes useless, as mine has become.

The Harbor Freight 17Ah will power your AVX for the several hours you mentioned above.

I use the one from Harbor Freight that Gabrielle linked to above for my AVX. It will power the mount all night long (and it jump-starts cars!)

I do run a heavy-duty extension cord from the house to power the camera cooler or laptop when doing long exposure stuff.

I use a simple big RV/Marine Deep Cycle battery, in a plastic Battery Box from Walmart.
I took one of those single into two 12 volt receptical devices, and wired it to the battery.

Later on, I added a Volt/Ammeter so I could monitor it at a glance.
