lens cap loose?

Just got a Meade 8" sct.....the lens cap is a REALLY loose fit, falls right off when the scope is in the down position.
There are 3 tabs that appear to be able to be pushed out to tighten the fit but it's plastic and I dont want to break them off.
Anyone have any ideas to tighten it up?
Was thinking of adding some tape around the edges of the lip to make it tighter.......would it work?

I've used adhesive felt to snug things like this nicely.

There is this kind of foamy strips with adhesive in one side. You can circle the whole cap or just make three tabs.

you can buy thicker felt, i've added more to mine, and installed some lock thumb screws so the cap can't come off during transport.

I wrap the edge of mine with electrical tape.

Just about every cap I have ever had was either too loose or too tight requiring all of the fixes above.
The best though was the black shower cap that arrived with my 8 inch DOB.
In front of my wife I put it on my head at a jaunty angle and performed my best impression of a French onion seller. "Zut alors! Sacre bleu!"
