GSO 8x50 Finder Help

#1

Post by Refractordude »

Was hoping to get the finder before a recent trip to a dark site. Well it came late last night, and I am having problems trying to focus it. The focuser does not operate smoothly with the dew shield/lens. I can focus a little buy turning the dew shield right or left, but that is not how it is suppose to work. Any help will be appreciated. I just hope I did not get a lemon.

With this type of RACI you focus by turning dew shield/lens left or right. Once the focus is achieved you lock it with the lock ring. It could be that lock ring is preventing you from focusing. Try to rotate the lock ring first to expose more threads for the dew shield/lens to rotate in.

^^ What Bigz says. The threads are very fine and it can take quite a few twists to get focus.

I have read the occasional story where even if a user screw the objective all the way in, or all the way out, they still cannot reach focus. This does not seem common though.

Glad that you got it figured out. I have that finder and I love it. It’s not mounted on the scope now because I am stuck on this astro imaging thing!

Thanks,
Jim
