New Star Diagonal Question
Hello all!
I have been observing for a couple of years and just upgraded my diagonal on my Celestron 180mm Maksutov to the Williams optics 2”SCT Rotolock dielectric. The thing is, it has a thermometer on the side, but no explanation of what it’s for! Any ideas?

It's the "shiver" meter. You really start to shiver more when you know what the temperature really is!

PS , it's an extra gizmo mostly for AP . Many APers use temp to determine when it is necessary to accomplish a new focus. Things contract requiring a focus adjustment.

I recall reading somewhere, diagonals, like telescopes, need to be at ambient temperature for optimal results. Don't know if it would make that much difference.

Williams has liked to put thermometers on some of their equipment for years and nobody has been able to figure out why, they are not even good quality ones so mostly for show I guess.
