Skywatcher: Evostar ED range of Reducers
Hello,
Looking at the Skywatcher range of Evostar ED DS Pro refractor scopes (72ED, 80ED, 100ED and 120ED) there seems to be a x0.85 reducer for each and every one. They all have different product codes so assume all slightly different. At £185.00 each this is a very expensive add on if you need ALL 4 if you have ALL 4 scopes. Is there a huge difference between each one or will one do all 4 scopes?
Example:
If not, can one recommend a Universal flattener and/or reducer that will fit ALL 4 scopes to avoid having 4 different units and expense???
Thanks
Jaq

This is such a Sky-Watcher specific question, have you tried contacting them first and ask them your question?
Just wondering,
JT

If I was in business and Skywatcher I'd probably say you'd need to buy the one specifically for that individual scope (seeing all 4 have different SKU). Probably due to the most minute of variations between them and to generate more 4 x more MONEY.
I was hoping to see if anyone happened to have two tubes and just one reducer to see and feedback their comments and hopefully say there is no difference in what their output is.

Re: Skywatcher: Evostar ED range of Reducers
This is a notice about the 80mm and 72mm
NOTE: This is essentially the reducer for Evostar 80ED, with a thread adapter. Unfortunately if you already own an ED80 reducer it cannot be used with the ED72 via our FLO reducer nosepiece (you can't get in far enough to achieve focus). The adapter supplied with the ED72 version of the reducer is necessary. We have requested the adapter be made available separately but that that currently isn't an option.
I believe the difference in a lot of them is a different thread pitch on the different models so you had to use a specific one.

Re: Skywatcher: Evostar ED range of Reducers
This has not been my experience with the telescope stores from which I order. It serves their better interest to give me an honest answer. This astronomy community is too small to give BS answers without word getting quickly around that they provide BS answers, one of the great features of forums like ours. Additionally, when I am doing product research with a retailer, I always give them the "third-degree" to make sure their answers stay consistent. You are wise to adhere to buyer beware but there are ways to mitigate this.Jaq1967 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2019 4:07 amIf I was in business and Skywatcher I'd probably say you'd need to buy the one specifically for that individual scope (seeing all 4 have different SKU). From OVL (in the UK)
No, they have to be different because all the telescopes have different focal lengths
Kind regards,
OVL
