Dew heater temperature?

#1

Post by Chich »

I found a lens heater that runs off USB. I just tried a 'dry run' and it gets up to 39 degrees after a few minutes. The scant paperwork with it says it can approach 60.

Just wondering what temperature range one should be looking at for dew heaters. These numbers seem high to me. I may look to making my own.

Thanks

That is a bit high, does it have a controller with it?
I usually do not have to run them above 40-50% to keep my 150mm clear, though I do not know what temperature that would be.
I use Kendrick dewheaters and either a Kendrick Mark IV 2 channel controller or a 1000 Oaks 4 channel controller.

As a start try to adjust it so it is just above the dew point. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dew_point

I just administer a battery operated hair drier as needed.

Ideally, dewpoint + 1 degree. Maybe +2 for peace of mind. No more.

Thanks for the replies. It has no controller, but I can make one for it. Not sure why it would warm up so much. I saw it up online and took a chance.

Dew was not an issue before but it does get wet hereabouts and so very cloudy. Makes one almost miss those clear dry -30 nights.
