My New Portable Battery

#1

Post by JayTee »

Just picked this up from Harbor Freight yesterday. It's the Viking 12V Lithium Ion Jump Starter. It was on sale for $75. It's compact it's light weight, and it will power any of my scopes, depending upon how much slewing I do, for at least a night if not an entire weekend.

Cheers

I carry one very similar in my Jeep. I've had it for several years and can attest that it will run anything. I was once in the dark desert and my buddy's battery suddenly died. It ran his AVX all night.

I often look at the stuff you folks in the US of A can get on Harbor Freight, and man, I am so envious

Good for you JT, hope it serves you well!

All the best,
Mark

It's 12amp hrs - What mount are you using and are you only using it to run the mount?
My rig, the Celestron CGX plus onboard computer and camera cooler eats through about 30amps per full night.

Wow, 30Amp hours per night!?
I don't know much about AP, so that's that's a shocker to me 😆 but yeah I can see an on board computer and accessories eating that up.

Yeah, It's an i5 NUC computer and the cooler on the camera is running about 50-60% all night so it uses some juice. Plus the mount, so I have three items pulling power pretty much constantly.
And that's a full night, dusk to dawn.
