145-147mm Tube Rings

#1

Post by Exparrot »

Anyone know where I might find some 147mm tube rings? I've done a quick search around the Internet, but came up short. Before I deep dive into searching some more, I thought I'd check with the folks here. These will be used on an older Celestron 127mm SCT. The tube's diameter is 146.4mm to be precise, so I guess 145mm might work as well. I can never tell if they advertise the I.D. with, or without, the felt lining.

Thanks, everyone.

Looks like the 144mm hinged split-rings will have to do. That's slightly smaller than the OTA's outer diameter, but it's just a couple of millimeters. Maybe they'll work. Looks like the vendors/resellers everyone suggested carry that size. I'll report back on the results.

The whole point of this venture is to get the C5 to ride on either side of an Alt-Az mount. I know...why? No big reason - it's just a thing I'm doing :)

I have two sets of rings with the three screw centering option, one large set and one medium sized set. With these I can mount any sized scope from 70mm to150mm.

Ozman, I've never tried centering rings on anything larger than a finder scope. I may have to look into them, though, probably a heavy-duty set like the ADM ones that JT provided a link for. The little SCT is about 6.5 lbs without accessories, but the ADM rings look pretty sturdy.

I use mine from scopestuff on scopes weighing twice what your SCT weighs so you should have no trouble at all.
