Large EP on a 1.25 diagonal

Post by Chich »

This isn't earth shattering but it has solved a problem I've had.

I have some Hyperion EPs which are a minor pain using a 1.25 diagonal. The thumbscrews are too short with knobs too big to allow them to be tightened easily and the EP rides on top of them. My initial idea was to pick up some M3 bolts but after visiting all the places-one-buys-a-bolt-at in the area I find that they just do not exist here.

Oh well, my other hobby - radio - to the rescue.

On the way home I was thinking I had to order some online when I thought about standoffs. These are used to stack/separate circuit boards and I thought they had to be the right size. Got home and found a few with M2 and M3 threads. Two of the M3 aluminum ones work just fine although I might dig around for some shorter ones - yeah, I should have taken the small brass one off before taking pics. Anyway, they are hexagonal so easy to get a grip on, the shaft does not touch the EP and they are M/F so the original thumbscrews have a place to live.

You can get them online or at most electronics/robotics shops. They come in aluminum, brass, plastic, nylon and steel and various lengths.
